FAQ

How do I choose right plan for my new home?

Find a Plan that You Like

Begin with the square footage or the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Then further “filter” the search results. You can limit the results to a style or you can look at plans with specific features.

Choose a House Plan That Suits Your Land

Having land survey completed is the first step. Then choose a plan that fits the characteristics of your land. It's better to make the house fit the land rather than try to make the land fit the house. Also, the size and shape of your lot affects the type of home you can build on the lot.

Be Open Minded, Your Perfect Home May Not Exist

It's important to be open-minded when looking at houses. By doing this, you'll learn things you never realized. Over time, your "ideal" home will evolve and change. Some people spend years searching for the perfect home. Ask yourself what are features you must have and what are features you want to have. Often is best to start with a base plan and customize it to your family’s needs, we can provide a quote to you for these services.

Although our plans can be built “as is” in most places, your local building department may have specific requirements. Some of these requirements, including structural engineering, soils reports and energy efficiency calculations may require significant additional investments.

The typical plan set does not include any plumbing, heating or air conditioning drawings due to the wide variety of local codes and climatic conditions. These details and specifications are easily obtained from your builder, contractor, and/or local suppliers.

All house plans from HouseplansMA are designed to conform to the local codes when and where the original house was constructed.
